It is always recommended by the wineries to let a bottle breathe for at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Any particular reason the wine bottle shouldn't be placed on the table? I find it much less awkward to remove the cork while it's on the table.

This is exactly what keeps real people away from drinking wine. Why is made a pretentious ritual just to open a bottle of wine to enjoy with friends?? avoid the pop…?? then get a screw cap bottle! Just open it and be happy….

In my place, we give the cork a good lick, helps it to slide out better, give it a try!

You forgot to tell people to twist the bottle at the end of a pour to prevent spills, even though you did it perfectly on the video! All sommeliers do this – it's key.

Also, the centre of the corkscrew is the hollow bit running up the centre, and that's the bit that needs to be central in the cork. This means you need to tell people to place the tip of the corkscrew slightly off-centre.

Sorry, but you only score a B- from me.

  • Patrick Pugh
    Posted September 23, 2018 8:46 AM

I also thought the "pop" on opening the bottle also shot air into the bottle that messes with the wine as well? please lete know if I am correct or not on your experience. I am seeing mixed reviews on the web!!!!

  • Earthling
    Posted September 23, 2018 8:46 AM

Just take a screwdriver or scissors and push the cork in,  then proceed to fill to the brim of the red Solo cup, of course keeping the label facing out the whole time. Keep it classy.

You are moving and shaking the bottle too much prior to opening. If it has sediment it will mix with the wine instead of staying on the bottom.

  • Dion Blaster
    Posted September 23, 2018 8:46 AM

and when you pull of the cork, make sure you really rub that end of the bottle with your hands

  • Roger Nevez

probably, all this 'technique' is the reason why wines are so much expensive than a bottle of soda
